Chatila's Bakery Sugar Free Low Fat Donuts
[perishable]

$1.99

This was my first time trying these donuts so I purchased three different flavors: Pumpkin filled with Vanilla Cream, Vanilla filled with Chocolate Cream, and Chocolate filled with Vanilla Cream.
For the most part, I enjoyed these donuts, although I can't see myself ordering more of the versions filled with vanilla cream.
Pumpkin filled with Vanilla Cream: Decent, but very unimpressed. Donut itself was underwhelming and the cream kind of reminded me of whipping cream in its taste/consistency rather than a rich frosting. Kind of bland and I couldn't pick up any of the pumpkin flavor, but at least it didn't taste fake or bitter like some other sugar free products.
Vanilla filled with Chocolate Filling: Much, much better. My favorite out of the three. The chocolate filling tasted much better and was a little sweeter, although still not over-the-top sweet like I would have liked. I didn't mind the whipping cream consistency of the chocolate cream as it was fairly reminiscent of the chocolate cool whip on top of the summer frappuccinos from Starbucks. Neither the donut nor the cream tasted fake or bitter, although the donut itself looks horribly unappetizing due to its dark, wet color and black spots. Despite the unpleasant appearance, again, I really liked this flavor much more than the other two and wouldn't mind getting it again!
Chocolate with Vanilla Cream: Again, a decent dessert, but could use improvement. I wish the vanilla cream was sweeter and I was disappointed yet again by its underwhelming nature (which may be perfect for someone who prefers more mild flavors). The donut itself has a cocoa taste, and although parts of it tasted artificial, it was also a bit sweeter so I enjoyed it.
Overall, I am very unimpressed by the vanilla cream and the vanilla donut but loved the chocolate versions of these so I will most likely be ordering the Chocolate filled with Chocolate Cream in the future. These were very dense and filling, but due to the lack of sweetness didn't completely satisfy me. They also weighed a little over 100 grams per donut instead of 85 grams as the nutritional label states, so they're probably a little closer to 140 calories rather than 110 per donut (which is still remarkably lower than an average pastry so I can't complain). I would recommend the chocolate cream filled version if you're considering which flavor to try, but I would really like to see this company change the consistency and sweetness of the vanilla cream!
